Davy listened to a cassette of British band Paladin (Island Records 1971) which had their version of The Fakir. He noted - listening intently - that this was played at a different time signature and it seemed incorrect. On the Midnight Man LP he states that Lalo Schifrin wrote this when he had a gig with Dizzy Gillespie. I still have not heard Daveys original source of this wonderful tune.
The bass steers the song to jazz music so it kinda depends whether you like it that way or not. For me, it is a little strange, but interesting and i like it :)

Wonderful! What a player Davy was, just knocks me out. Love the power in the opening.
