wow this is a complete rip off of greg graffins version. now i know this song has been redone 100s of times. but this is gregs version (done in 2006) to a T
The real story is different than the words of the song (written almost 40 years after the incident). Yes, Naomi Wise was murdered by John Lewis, but she was not "little" but a full grown woman. There are a number of historians who have looked into the truth of this incident, which is, in reality, the riveting story of the whole rotten Lewis family. (who are distantly related to my wonderful husband.) There are many versions of this song, with different words. This is the purist of the versions (IMHO), but just note, there is the song, and there is the historical record. They are two different things entirely.
Who cares what the poor corpse most probably looked like? Appreciate the haunting beauty of this murder ballad. Thanks to Doc Watson for introducing me to this very romantic tragedy.

The only thing that would make this song better would be if John Louis was hanged.
