I purchased the VHS that this was featured on ("Songs of the Civil War") shortly after it was available. I remember watching this song over and over just to see that beautiful brunette and wishing it was me she was smiling at and singing so lovingly toward. By the looks of it, John Hartford wanted some of that sugar as well!
I was never a country music fan EXCEPT for Hoyt, Patsy Cline and Hank Williams. Hoyt had a voice that could rattle windows from three miles away and a great sense of fun in his tunes.
