MY FAVORITE U TUBE VIDEO of all time...hearing this genius,, this greatest of the greatest jazz pianist usually cheers me up instantly! RIP Oscar wherever you are! After a 34 yr. career as a pianist...i still am a novice compared to this genius!
Not a lot of people know this. But as good as Oscar was he wrecked every piano he played on! His huge hands were like shovels! Hitting those ivories like he did completely wrecked the tuning of the piano! Naturally it was automatic all pianos he played on had to be retuned!
This concert was a broadcast by ZDF - Süddeutsche Fernsehen (South German Television). I was in this concert when I was doing my business administration training at Siemens AG in Munich.
This version of Satin Doll is probably the worst of Oscar Peterson I have heard. Clunky and stiff, very heavy handed and nothing an average player could not do.

I remember my late step father, Robert Cromer, playing this tune and many others almost daily on a Hammond two-row organ. I miss him dearly.

One of the biggest losses in Jazz music, a true genius. My 60th Birthday present was seeing him at the Royal Albert Hall.
